Casting off the line

This evening was very intense.

YES!! I am just back from attending my first class in the masters program at a local college of education. It should have felt like I had boarded the train, and as it was pulling away from the platform, I was leaning out and waving back to those I was leaving behind. I've never been on a boat like that, but I suppose that might be what it was like for immigrants from past generations.

Instead, my overwhelming feeling was like swimming in a lake or at the sea. You swim further and further from shore, but keep looking back to make sure you can make it back to the safety of shore any time you choose.

The boat analogy is interesting, because we briefly talked in class about Digital Natives versus Digital Immigrants. And being an (non-digital) immigrant myself, I was comparing in my mind the behaviors of those fresh off the boat in the real world, and the digital one.
