U-ADEPT

U-ADEPT : That's a scrambled update.

Well, the summer just flew by. I travelled for 6 weeks with the boys, and did nowhere near the reading I had planned. Also had my two nieces come and visit for 4 weeks. At 11 & 14, and female, this was an interesting experience for me.

The boys are now back in their school. And my brother is just finishing up a week-long visit.

I did do a lot of thinking over the summer, and talking to very close family and friends about what they thought of my interest in teaching. Unfortunately, although I had hoped that all would suddenly become clear, I did not get much more clarity in those conversations.

Finished reading Brain Rules (John Medina) before the summer started. Like so many other books before, I tell myself that I am determined that I will sit down and do a chapter-by-chapter summary of the salient points.

A string of readings that were on the back-burner came together extremely powerfully in the past month. I had not chosen them specifically as single theme (except the two with talent in their titles), but they sure are mind-expanding taken together.

1. Outliers - Malcolm Gladwell
2. The anatomy of determination - Paul Graham (this is a blog post / essay. I really love Graham)
3. Talent is over-rated - Geoff Colvin
4. The Talent Code - Daniel Coyle. (This last one is optional)

I wonder if I can find the time to go back and read Carol Dweck and Alfie Kohn again while I am in this mood. Not sure about that though. See the next few posts as to why.
